Winter Fun at Catamount!

Thursday, January 29th, 2026

Welcome home old man winter! Come enjoy the blanketed wonderland and play in the snow with us at Catamount.

Andy is on a grooming binge this week and continues to pack the main ski trails, many have been tracked too. The full Lookout loop has been groomed and ski conditions are as good as they get throughout the network.

We are excited to host a Burlington Middle and High School Invitational XC Ski Race on the afternoon of Thursday, January 29th. The course is on Goose Hill and some trails will be closed for the event. Spectators are welcome.

Fat bike and snowshoe trails are in great shape, although still a bit soft. The Snodog is back in action and we’ve gotten a few passes on the these trails. Expect regular attention as we get ready for the Richard Tom Foundation Fat Bike Rally on Sunday, February 8th.

We’re planning regular night operations this week, Tues-Thurs, 4PM-8PM. Please note the Rental Hub will not be open for tickets or rentals, but lights will be on.  Please remember to pay before accessing the trails. There are QR codes at the Hub to help.

Speaking of night fun, join us for our monthly Tour De Moon guided ski and snowshoe adventures this Friday, January 30th!

Snowshoes, fat bikes or skis are required for travel on the trails, except for the sledding hill accessed via the road next to the big house.

Pedestrians and narrow tire cyclists are welcome to use Governor Chittenden Road.

Thank you for your understanding and for helping us care for the trails.

Remember to member up! Membership comes with many benefits, including early camp access. We’ve updated camp schedules and offerings for 2026, with increased spaces for our youngest campers and a new advanced bike camp option.

While pedestrian/snowshoe access is complementary, trail maintenance, grooming and organizational support are expensive.
Please support our nonprofit’s year round stewardship.

Governor Chittenden Road is almost always a great option for walking, running and riding too. See Trail Conditions.

Please check Guest Service & Rental Hub Hours for updated coverage.

Please review our Winter Trail Mantras:

If you are leaving a track, please turn back.
If the ground is fully white, wearing snowshoes is right.
Ski wherever your heart desires, single track is best for snowshoes and tires.
Ski tracks are set to glide, make sure to snowshoe and ride to the side.

For the sake of all trail users please be patient during freeze thaw cycles. Thank you for helping us steward these trails.

SnowSchool

“A bright yellow school bus pulls up to a frozen parking lot in the middle of winter. The doors open. Out come dozens of fifth-graders in puffy jackets, mittens, and hats. Today, these students are going to strap on snowshoes, romp around the snow, dig pits, study snow crystals, and learn about their watershed. Welcome to SnowSchool.” ~Winter Wildlands Alliance

Building & Trail Updates

After an extensive public input phase during the winter and spring, we’ve been working hard this summer with our partners on the VOREC Building Planning Grant — Black River Design and TCE — to advance building designs and permitting requirements. This work includes wetlands and stormwater delineations and permits, Act 250 review, septic system planning, and more. We aim to have conceptual designs finalized this fall! We’re very excited to be moving this project forward.

With Town of Williston Selectboard approval in the Spring, we are still moving forward with Act 250 and Wetland permits for our Comprehensive Trail Plan! This work is being done concurrently with building planing whenever possible.  Supporting the planning time and permit applications for this project is essential to its success.
